The 2025 billing article names these plans "Email + SMS" and "Displays" for subscriptions activated on or after July 8, 2025, and describes the Email plan as full access to Privy's Displays, Email and SMS products, so pop-ups are included. The Displays plan does not include email or text messages.
How much does Privy email cost as your list grows?
The mailable contacts selector on the pricing page sets the Email price. The steps it displayed:

| 0 to 1,500 | $30 |
| 1,501 to 2,000 | $45 |
| 2,001 to 3,000 | $60 |
| 4,001 to 5,000 | $90 |

The 2025 billing article gives the rule behind the steps: $15 for every 500 contacts from 1,501 to 2,000, $15 for every 1,000 contacts up to 25,000, $30 for every 5,000 up to 100,000, $60 for every 10,000 up to 500,000, and $300 for every 50,000 above that.

Two patterns follow. The price per contact falls as the list grows: on the pricing page, $165 for 10,000 contacts is 1.65 cents per contact, and $840 for 100,000 is 0.84 cents. And because the steps are small, cleaning the list moves the bill quickly: under the billing article's scale, 1,000 fewer contacts save $15 a month anywhere between 2,000 and 25,000.
What counts as a mailable contact?
Privy's pricing FAQ defines a mailable contact as one who gave you permission to market to them: suppressed contacts and contacts who have not explicitly opted in are not counted. The billing rules, from the 2025 billing article:
- The peak counts. Privy bills on the highest number of mailable contacts in your account during each billing cycle, plus any SMS credit add-on.
- Going over moves you up at once. If your list passes your tier's limit, you are charged the new tier, prorated, for the rest of the current cycle.
- Going under moves you down by itself. If the count drops below a limit, Privy moves you to the lower tier automatically, without a notification.
On Shopify, the number to start from is your email subscriber count. Privy's Shopify integration article says customers marked as accepting marketing in Shopify sync to Privy, and that existing mailable contacts from Shopify are imported automatically.
How much does Privy SMS cost?
Texting runs on credits. The Email plan includes 250 a month, and the SMS add-on on the Privy pricing page sells monthly packs:
| Monthly credits | Price per month | Cost per credit (computed) |
|---|---|---|
| 250 (included) | $0 | Included |
| 1,250 | $20 | 1.6 cents |
| 2,500 | $40 | 1.6 cents |
| 5,000 | $80 | 1.6 cents |
| 10,000 | $150 | 1.5 cents |
| 25,000 | $300 | 1.2 cents |
| 50,000 | $600 | 1.2 cents |
| 100,000 | $1,100 | 1.1 cents |
Source: SMS add-on selector on the Privy pricing page, read on November 4, 2026. The selector continues up to 450,000 credits for $4,950.
What a credit buys, according to Privy's message segments article:
- One SMS segment to the US or Canada is one credit, and one MMS segment is 3 credits.
- A segment holds 160 simple characters, or 70 when the message contains an emoji. Longer messages split into segments of 153 characters, or 67 with emojis.
- Your business name and the opt-out line count. Privy always adds your business name, and the "Reply STOP to opt out" footer is on by default.
According to the 2025 billing article, the 250 included credits expire 30 days after the start of your subscription period, credits from paid packs expire after 60 days, so they can roll into the next cycle, and one-time top-ups expire 60 days after purchase. When credits run out, SMS campaigns and the text steps of your flows stop sending until you top up or move to a bigger pack.
Two conditions come before the first text. Privy's toll-free verification article says you must complete toll-free verification before you collect textable contacts or send SMS, and that Privy SMS can only be sent to numbers in the United States and Canada. Our guides to SMS marketing consent and SMS marketing pricing cover the rules and the per-message costs across providers.
What does the Pop-ups and Displays only plan cost?
This plan is for stores that send email from another tool and only want Privy's pop-ups and forms. Its price follows your average monthly pageviews:
| Monthly pageviews | Price per month |
|---|---|
| Up to 10,000 | $24 |
| Up to 25,000 | $48 |
| Up to 50,000 | $84 |
| Up to 100,000 | $168 |
| Up to 200,000 | $300 |
| Up to 500,000 | $420 |
| Up to 1,000,000 | $600 |
| Up to 2,000,000 | $960 |
| Up to 3,500,000 | $1,500 |

The pricing page says contacts collected on this plan sync automatically to your Shopify, BigCommerce or Wix account and to selected platforms, Klaviyo included. If Klaviyo sends your email, our Klaviyo pricing guide gives its price by list size, and our ranking of the best Shopify pop-up apps compares pop-up tools on price and billing basis.
Is there a free trial, and what happens after it?
Privy's pricing FAQ describes a 15-day free trial with no credit card required, with every feature except SMS marketing (which you can ask Privy to open) and email sends limited to 100 contacts a day. The 2025 billing article says that when the 15 days end without a paid plan, your displays are deactivated and your flows stop.
How does Privy billing work?
The rules from the 2025 billing article, read on November 4, 2026:
- Monthly by default. The first invoice is charged immediately by credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover, through Stripe), then on the same date each month.
- Annual billing exists, without a published discount. Annual billing gives a discount for an upfront payment, annual subscriptions are not refundable, and an annual plan cannot be canceled before its renewal date. The pricing page says Privy works without annual contracts, so the choice is yours.
- Price changes come with 14 days' notice by email.
- Refunds are reviewed case by case within 10 days of the initial charge, and Privy does not refund mid-cycle plan changes, promotional rates or upgrades made through its confirmation steps.
- Uninstalling does not cancel. The plan management article says removing Privy from your store, or closing the store, does not cancel your Privy plans: cancel each one in Plans and Billing.
What changed for older accounts and for the Shopify app?
For accounts activated before July 8, 2025, Privy's legacy billing article lists earlier plans: Convert Only (from $24 a month for up to 10,000 pageviews), Starter (from $30 a month for up to 1,500 mailable contacts), and Growth, which started at $45 a month for up to 2,000 mailable contacts and 75 textable contacts with 450 sends. Starter and Growth could be paid through the Shopify bill, while the 2025 plans are paid by credit card.
On November 4, 2026, Privy's Shopify App Store listing displayed "This app is not currently available on the Shopify App Store". Privy's Shopify integration article still describes installing from that listing, and it presents a manual install (pasting the Privy code into your theme) as limited to displays and basic visitor tracking, without contact sync, coupon codes or order data. If you are planning a new Shopify setup, ask Privy which install path applies before the trial starts.
What does Privy cost for a real store?
Two fictional stores, priced with the selectors on the Privy pricing page as of November 4, 2026, on monthly billing.
Store 1: 1,200 mailable contacts, 8,000 pageviews a month, email only.
- Email plan, 0 to 1,500 contacts: $30 a month, pop-ups included, 250 SMS credits unused.
- Pop-ups and Displays only, up to 10,000 pageviews: $24 a month, if email goes through another tool.
- Over a year: $360 for the Email plan, $288 for pop-ups only, before the cost of the other email tool.
Store 2: 9,000 mailable contacts, 60,000 pageviews a month, 1,500 textable contacts in the US. It sends four single-segment texts a month to every textable contact.
- Email: 8,001 to 9,000 contacts, $150 a month.
- SMS: 1,500 contacts × 4 texts × 1 credit = 6,000 credits. The pack that covers it is 6,250 credits for $100 a month. This count leaves out the 250 included credits, since the pricing page does not say whether they add to a paid pack.
- Total: $150 + $100 = $250 a month, or $3,000 over twelve months.
- If one of the four texts carries an image: that send costs 1,500 × 3 = 4,500 credits, so the month needs 4,500 + 4,500 = 9,000 credits. The 10,000-credit pack costs $150, and the total becomes $300 a month, or $3,600 a year.
- If the list passes 9,000 mid-cycle: at 10,500 contacts the Email tier becomes $180, prorated for the rest of the cycle.
One result is worth checking on your own numbers. On the pricing page, at 60,000 pageviews the Pop-ups and Displays only plan falls in the "up to 100,000" tier at $168 a month, which is more than the $150 Email plan for 9,000 contacts, and the Email plan includes displays. A store with high traffic and a modest list should price both.
How do you check your own Privy cost?
- Count your mailable contacts: in Shopify, the customers who accept email marketing, minus those you no longer want to email.
- Read your average monthly pageviews in your analytics if you only want pop-ups.
- Estimate SMS credits: textable contacts × texts per month × segments per text, with 3 credits per MMS segment.
- Set both selectors on the pricing page to those numbers and note the monthly total.
- Plan the trial: 15 days, email to 100 contacts a day, SMS only on request, and toll-free verification before any phone number is collected.
- Ask for the annual price if your volume is stable, knowing an annual plan is not refundable.
- Compare with other tools. Our ranking of the best Shopify email marketing apps lists prices and billing bases, and our Omnisend pricing guide covers another email and SMS option for Shopify stores.
Where does WhatsApp fit next to Privy?
Privy's texts go to US and Canadian numbers only, according to its toll-free verification article. Shoppers in other countries, and shoppers who would rather chat than read a text, can be reached on WhatsApp, which needs its own opt-in. Kanal, our WhatsApp marketing app for Shopify, has a pop-up and a chat widget that open WhatsApp to collect those opt-ins. Kanal has no integration with Privy, so the two run side by side on the same store: Privy's pop-up asks for the email address, and Kanal's widget or pop-up starts the WhatsApp conversation. Trigger them on different pages or moments so a visitor does not see two forms at once.
Once a shopper has opted in on WhatsApp, Kanal sends campaigns and automations such as abandoned cart recovery, with revenue tracked for each message. Our guide to WhatsApp opt-in rules covers how to word the consent. Kanal costs €89 (Pro), €149 (Scale) or €350 (Business) a month on the Kanal pricing page, read on November 4, 2026, and Meta bills each WhatsApp template message on top, at a rate set by category and recipient country: our WhatsApp Business pricing guide lists the rates.
